Patient information event

  • 27th January 2018
  • Edinburgh Marriott Hotel, 111 Glasgow Road, EH12 8NF

Consultant Opthalmologist, Mr Jonathan Ross will be available for a detailed discussion regarding modern techniques in vision correction. Mr Ross will discuss the causes and symptoms of cataracts, along with how they can be managed and treated. This talk will also outline the benefits of laser eye surgery and vision correcting lens surgery as well as new developments in cataract surgery, and will include time for questions and a one-to-one discussion afterwards.

Patient information events are held to give our patients as much information as possible before they decide if and where to proceed with surgery. We encourage anyone considering vision correction to attend one of our events. There is no obligation to proceed with a consultation or treatment following a patient information event.

*Replacement lens surgery – a procedure which corrects vision by replacing the patients lens with an artificial lens. Therefore, not only correcting vision but permanently preventing the possibility of cataracts developing. This procedure is also an excellent option for patients who already have cataracts and require vision correction.

About Mr Ross

Mr Ross is originally from Edinburgh and has now been a full time eye surgeon for 18 years, performing approximately 1500 eye surgeries every year in central Scotland. He continues to deliver high volume surgery within the NHS as a core member of the Scottish Cataract Team at Golden Jubilee National Hospital, and as of 2017 is playing a leading role in the design and development of the new national cataract centre scheduled to open in 2019. This service, once fully functional, is intended to double Scotland’s NHS cataract surgery capacity. Part of this project will involve benchmarking cataract services around Europe and beyond.

Mr Ross believes in delivering world class refractive eye care in Scotland, with the best technology available and time to talk to patients and develop tailored treatment. To this end he formed Laser Vision Scotland at Spire Shawfair in 2013 and with the help of his colleague Sanjay Mantry and a team of brilliant support staff has developed the service that now exists today. Most of the patients who attend Laser Vision Scotland are referred by friends or family who have already been under our care.

Mr Ross is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of the United Kingdom, Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, Member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, Member of the United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and has for many years been an author and peer reviewer for several scientific journals including the British Journal of Ophthalmology.
